augh. Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek and Roman deities; faux latin fancypants wordage; the attributions for each chakra are wrong; there are more than seven chakras, true, but the two listed at the top of this chart are, frankly, made the hell up.

They got the placements and the colors right. The symbols on the left column are right (minus the top two). Everything else? WRONG.
Top to bottom, they are:
Sahasrara
Ajna
Visuddha
Anahata
Manipura
Swadisthana (or Svadisthana)
Muladhara
Imagine that as you move from the base chakra up through each successive chakra you’re moving from one state of being to the next: in order you move from “I am” to “I want”, “I will”, “I feel”, “I communicate”, “I concieve” and lastly at the crown, once more, “I am”.
The mudras, or hand positions, are associated with each chakra, however, they won’t have the effect listed on the right column. Instead, each mudra is used, in conjunction with pranayama breath to open the associated chakra. I don’t recommend opening your chakras willy nilly, unless you enjoy feeling overcharged, giddy, unbalanced and prone to passing the fuck out when you stand up. But hey, everyone has different kinks.
Open your chakras when you are blocked in a given chakra; restore the free flowing energy between your chakras and then, when you’re feeling better, allow your energy centers to relax. Let them come back to something a bit less wide open and highly charged; at least until you’re used to operating with your system on ‘high’, so to speak.
If you want to learn about chakras, I recommend books by Anodea Judith. She’s awesome. Read her stuff, especially Wheels of Life; A User’s Guid to the Chakra System.

they dye them. i had to do the same back when i was in an all-Black ballet company as a youth. it’s part of the inherent white supremacy of ballet that you still can’t buy pointe shoes in anything other than pink, for the most part.
